About Jennifer W Applebaum
Jennifer W. Applebaum, PhD, MS, (she/her), is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental & Global Health at the University of Florida’s College of Public Health and Health Professions. Her research examines how human–animal relationships intersect with social determinants of health, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable populations, healthcare access, and multispecies family systems.
Dr. Applebaum leads several funded projects focused on pet ownership and health among people with HIV, aging adults, and communities experiencing housing insecurity. Her work has been widely published and featured in national and international media outlets, and she serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Anthrozoology.
She teaches undergraduate and graduate coursework on human–animal interaction, the social determinants of health, and One Health, and mentors students across public health and related disciplines.
