The College of Public Health and Health Professions offers several scholarships to eligible students.
Who can apply for college scholarships?
- PHHP graduate and professional students.
- PHHP undergraduate students in all three of our degree programs who have completed at least one year of PHHP coursework in the program.
- All applicants must be in good academic standing in their current program of study.
FAQs:
- If I am pursuing a combination degree (undergraduate/graduate), which degree level should I apply under? Answer: You should apply under your undergraduate degree.
- If I already received a PHHP college scholarship in a previous semester, am I eligible to apply for another one? Answer: Yes, you may apply for additional scholarships in future semesters even if you have already received a PHHP scholarship in a previous semester.
- Can you help me determine which scholarship(s) I should apply for? Answer: No, you will need to review each scholarship’s criteria and if you are still unsure, you should work with your advisor or mentor to help you determine if you qualify for any of them.

College Scholarships
The application period for Spring 2026 will open on October 1, 2025-December 5, 2025. College scholarships are awarded at the beginning of the Fall semester and at the beginning of the Spring semester. Scholarship disbursements will be awarded in the semester they apply and cannot be deferred to future semesters.

Michelle Brooks Yates Endowment Fund in Honor of Wilma S. Brooks
Who is eligible: New or continuing graduate and professional students. Self-nominations and faculty nominations are accepted.
Criteria: Students are selected based on the following priority
1. Former undergraduate Florida Opportunity Scholars (FOS) whose current or future research focuses on obesity and/or nutrition.
2. Former undergraduate Florida Opportunity Scholar regardless of research interest.
3. Student who has research interests in obesity and nutrition but is not currently conducting obesity/nutrition research and is not a former Florida Opportunity Scholars
4. Student who would best benefit from financial assistance
Judson A. Clements Memorial Scholarship
Who is eligible: Although undergraduate juniors and seniors are considered, preference is given to graduate and professional students. Self-nominations and nominations by others are accepted.
Criteria:
1. Pursuing a health-related field as a profession
2. Demonstrates strong leadership qualities, such as through service to the community, school, church, etc.
3. Although not required, priority is given to applicants who have lived, worked or volunteered in Duval County.
Paul M., Laura L., and Amy L. Deutsch Endowment in Life Care Planning Scholarship
Criteria:
1. Students who are conducting research
2. Must be conducting research with individuals with severe disabilities and/or research in the furtherance of the process of life care planning
3. Chronic disease is excluded in the research on catastrophic disability
Nomination materials: Self-nominations that include the materials listed below will be accepted:
1. Completed FAFSA or UF Determination of Need Form and Scholarship Application Form
2. As part of the application, you will be asked to provide the following:
a. Brief description of the study (must include population, specific objectives, method, and statement of relevance to the field) b. Explanation of how your research supports an area of catastrophic disability or the process of life care planning
c. One- to three-line statement on your career plans related to working with individuals with disabilities
3. Copy of your CV
Anna F. Gutekunst Scholarship
Who is eligible: Juniors, seniors, graduate, and professional students recently involved in service activities. Self-nominations are acceptable, but preference is given to those nominated by others. Nominations are accepted from faculty, staff, students, and peers and supervisors in community service organizations.
Criteria: Students are selected based on the following priority
1. Service in student organizations associated with the College (e.g., LEAP, student chapters of professional organizations linked to our majors (SPTA, SOTA, NSSLHA, etc.)
2. Service contributions in health areas (e.g., through UF Health/Shands, community organizations offering health services/information)
3. General service contributions in the community
4. Financial need will break a tie; length of involvement, level of responsibility, and types of contributions are all part of the selection criteria
Sam and Connie Holloway Endowed Scholarship
Who is eligible: Undergraduate, graduate and professional students. Preference is given to undergraduate seniors and graduate/professional students who have completed at least 24 credits.
Criteria:
1. Evidence of current college leadership experience. This must include either: (a) leadership within the college, such as on college affiliated organizations, boards, or college-sponsored activities, or (b) leadership that directly benefits the college, such as leadership in professional organizations
2. Evidence of professional promise, such as: (a) participation in student departmental activities; (b) leadership achievements in the Community and University; and/or (c) exceptional clinical or other related professional development activities enhancing leadership skills.

Perri Family Fellowship
Who is eligible: New or continuing graduate students. Self-nominations and nominations by others are accepted
Criteria:
1. The student must have been the first in their family to attend a college or university at the undergraduate level
2. The student must be in good academic standing
3. Ph.D. students are given priority
Horace & Vivian Sawyer Endowment for scholarships in Forensic Vocational Rehabilitation
Who is eligible: Social and Behavioral Sciences students (M.P.H. and Public Health Ph.D.)
Criteria:
1. Student is interested in working with people with disabilities (psychiatric and/or physical) or chronic disease
2. Preference given to those individuals whose career path support community reintegration
Ronald J. Spitznagel Service Fellowship in Health Sciences
Who is eligible: Graduate and professional students with more than 50 hours of volunteer service. Self nominations and nominations by others are accepted.
Criteria:
1. Documented volunteer service of 50 or more hours to the University and Community
2. Service hours must be unpaid and not associated with an academic or work requirement; service to immediate or extended family members does not count
3. Priority is given to students whose service focuses on health (e.g., health prevention and promotion, organization serving people with health needs, etc.)
Bruce Thomason Family Memorial Scholarship Fund (Endowment)
Who is eligible: Ph.D. in Public Health-Social Behavioral Sciences concentration
Criteria:
1. Focus on community engagement, community reentry, or vocational rehabilitation
Jewel Ahrano Scholarship
Criteria:
1. Open to students enrolled in health sciences programs.
2. Must demonstrate financial need based on institutional or federal guidelines.
