Jingnan Zhang, Ph.D, Named PHHP 2017 Outstanding Alumni

Jingnan Zhang, Ph.D., was recently named as one of the thirteen College of Public Health and Health Professions', outstanding alumni for the year 2017. Dr. Zhang received her doctorate in biostatistics from the department in 2016. She is currently a biostatistician at Pfizer.

Online Master of Science in Biostatistics

The department is excited to have kicked off the new Online Master of Science in Biostatistics program which began Fall term. This online program is the first of its kind in the nation and the inaugural class consists of 33, both domestic and international, students.

Annual Spring Picnic

On April, 29, 2017, the department hosted its annual spring picnic. All department faculty, staff, students, visitors and their families were invited to attend. This year the picnic took place at Drs. Somnath and Susmita Datta’s home here in Gainesville, Florida.

Successful Biostatistics Workshop

The department hosted a successful workshop titled, Statistical Inference for Biomedical Big Data, on April 7th and 8th. The workshop brought together prominent statisticians to discuss and foster the cutting –edge developments of statistical theory, methods, and tools for biomedical big data analysis.

Longini named UF Research Foundation Professor

Dr. Ira Longini, a professor of biostatistics in the College of Public Health and Health Professions and the College of Medicine, is one of 34 UF scientists recognized for a distinguished record of research.

Aspen Institute Italia Award Winner: Dr. Ira Longini

Dr. Ira Longini, Professor in the Department of Biostatistics, along with a team of Italian and American researchers, is an Aspen Institute Italia Award recipient. This award recognizes a significant research contribution in the field of natural, theoretical or applied sciences produced jointly by scientists from Italy and the U.S.
