PHC 6601 – Professional Series (ProSeries) in Public Health

About

PHC 6601: Professional Series (ProSeries) in Public Health:

ProSeries is a required MPH professional preparation course designed to support students as they plan for and complete the Applied Practice Experience (APE) and MPH Capstone, while also developing career readiness skills for the public health workforce. Through required seminars, career chats, and structured assignments, students engage in activities such as resume and cover letter development, mock interviewing, professional networking, Excel skill-building, IRB training, Capstone and APE proposal preparation, and reflective career readiness assessments. The course emphasizes professionalism, interprofessional collaboration, and applied competency development aligned with CEPH and MPH concentration competencies, ensuring students are fully prepared for successful completion of their culminating program requirements and transition into public health practice.

Students Admitted Prior to Fall 2025:

You are enrolled in a separate, self-paced ProSeries Canvas course. Please access ProSeries using this link. If you are unable to access the course, contact Lisa McNeil for assistance.

Enrollment

ProSeries 0-credit (Preparation Phase)

Students will enroll in PHC 6601 (0-credit) during the semester prior to beginning the Applied Practice Experience (PHC 6941) and again, if applicable, during the semester prior to beginning the MPH Capstone (PHC 6940).

The 0-credit version of PHC 6601 is a mandatory preparatory course that allows students to complete required seminars, modules, and planning assignments before beginning APE and/or Capstone.

  • Some students will enroll in PHC 6601 (0-credit) twice, completing the APE preparation track and the Capstone preparation track in different semesters.
  • Other students will enroll in PHC 6601 (0-credit) once when their plan of study shows that APE and Capstone occur in the same final semester. In this case, the course prepares students for both requirements concurrently.

Students must earn a Satisfactory (S) grade in all required 0-credit ProSeries offerings before progressing to the final credit-bearing course.

ProSeries 1-credit (Final Semester Requirement)

Students will enroll in PHC 6601 (1-credit) during their final semester in the MPH program, alongside registration for the MPH Capstone (PHC 6940).

Enrollment in the 1-credit version of PHC 6601 is contingent upon the successful completion of all required 0-credit ProSeries preparation, including earning a Satisfactory grade in prior offerings.
