Research Profile
The goal of our research lab is to identify the cellular and molecular mechanisms which drive skeletal muscle pathophysiology in response to acute conditions and chronic diseases, with a predominant focus on cancer-induced effects on muscle. Indeed, many people with cancer develop muscle wasting and weakness, which has a profound effect on activities of daily living and quality of life, a person’s cancer treatment plan, and overall lifespan. By studying the mechanisms which lead to cancer-induced muscle pathology, using pre-clinical models and patient biopsies, and testing treatments targeted to these mechanisms, we aim to improve outcomes for cancer patients suffering from wasting, weakness and fatigue.
