About Santanu K Datta
Dr. Santanu K. Datta, PhD, MBA, MS, is a Clinical Associate Professor in HSRMP. He joined the University of Florida in May, 2019 after a 22-year career with the Division of General Internal Medicine in the Duke University School of Medicine, as well as a joint appointment in the Center of Excellence in Primary Care at the Durham VA Medical Center. He obtained a BS in Chemistry, an MBA in Finance, and an MS in Economics from Florida State University and a PhD in Health Policy and Administration from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Datta conducts health economics, health outcomes, and implementation science research for various diseases, health interventions and programs, and health policies. His current research is focused on the areas of lung cancer screening, smoking cessation, and adolescent vaping.

Dr. Datta’s research is motivated by the need to provide decision-makers with information regarding healthcare costs, cost-effectiveness analysis, and budgetary impact of healthcare interventions, programs, and policies that improve health outcomes and quality-of-life to facilitate evidence-based policy and clinical practice implementation decisions. His particular research focus is on intervention strategies that improve outcomes and access in an efficient, cost-effective manner by utilizing technology and alternative provider strategies than traditional clinical practice. He has conducted economic analyses and health services research for a wide range of interventions and health conditions including smoking cessation, lung cancer screening, telemedicine for dermatology referrals, diabetic retinopathy screening, genetic counseling; provider-guided, telephone-based care and/or group-visits for diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol control, obesity, osteoarthritis self-management; newer anticoagulants for the prevention of stroke among atrial fibrillation patients, and Lynch Syndrome screening.
