About Erika M Cascio

Erika M. Cascio, Psy.D., is a clinical associate professor and neuropsychologist who joined the University of Florida faculty in 2016 in the department of clinical & health psychology. A graduate of Wright State University School of Professional Psychology, she completed specialized training in neuropsychology at Wallace Kettering Neuroscience Institute and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, followed by a neuropsychology residency and pediatric neuropsychology fellowship at UF. Dr. Cascio’s clinical focus involves assessment and diagnosis of neurocognitive conditions affecting individuals with complex medical illnesses. She is an expert on the brain-behavior relationship, particularly related to how diseases and their associated treatments impact the developing brain. Dr. Cascio is especially passionate about hematology/oncology, brain tumor, pediatric and adult epilepsy, and traumatic brain injury.

Clinical Profile

Dr. Cascio is an attending neuropsychologist in the UF Psychology Clinic, serving several departments within UF Health Shands Hospital. She enjoys working with individuals across the lifespan and currently serves both children and adults in her clinical practice. Her clinical focus involves the assessment and diagnosis of neurocognitive conditions affecting children and adults with complex medical illness. Dr. Cascio is especially passionate about working with patients in the areas of oncology, epilepsy, and traumatic brain injury. She is one of two faculty who conduct WADA procedures and intra-operative cortical mapping evaluations. She is currently the faculty director of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Advanced practicum and clinical rotation, and co-director of the Neuropsychology service within the UF Comprehensive Epilepsy program. She trains and supervises pre-doctoral students, intern residents, and fellows in the neuropsychological assessment of children and adults, as well as psychotherapeutic intervention.

Research Profile

Dr. Cascio’s research interests span a variety of topics within neuropsychology; although, she holds a particular interest in pediatric cancer and traumatic brain injury. Her doctoral dissertation involved the development of a recovery guide for children who have experienced mild traumatic brain injury/concussion and their families, which comprised an activity book geared toward assisting school-age children in understanding the recovery process. Since joining the faculty, Dr. Cascio has been a part of many interdisciplinary research studies and clinical trials within oncology, neurology, pediatric congenital heart, and neonatology. Her interest in program development has also led to procurement of several philanthropic grants supporting service provision within pediatrics.
