This talk explores the data science foundations of the LabGenie project, which evaluates how large language models (LLMs) interpret laboratory test results. It highlights empirical findings on LLM performance, including challenges with numerical accuracy and clinical context, and examines how lab data can enhance AI-supported differential diagnosis. The talk also introduces LabQAR, a curated benchmark dataset designed to assess LLM understanding of lab reference ranges and result interpretation, positioning LabGenie as a testbed for advancing clinically grounded and trustworthy AI in laboratory medicine.
