As a student in Public Health, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or Health Science, you are entering a program dedicated to academic excellence, student support, and preparing future professionals to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities. You will be challenged to think critically, engage in meaningful learning experiences, and build the knowledge and skills needed for success in graduate study, professional programs and the health workforce.

Pre-health pathways

Consider your academic and professional goals to determine if you are on a pre-health pathway.

  • Explore the pre-health website and resources to prepare for prerequisite courses and other components of pursuing a pre-health pathway. We encourage you to indicate your official UF pre-health interest by completing the Pre-Health Service Indicator on this webpage.
  • Be sure to review and include pre-health prerequisite courses in your semester plans. You can view professional school model semester plans and prerequisite courses on the pre-health website.

What to expect in your first semester

Academic advising

Plan to meet with your PHHP academic advisor, create a 2-year plan, and explore campus wellness resources during your first semester. Plan to schedule advising appointments in Fall and Spring during your first year.

  • Review the PHHP Advising Syllabus to learn about advising expectations and prepare for your advising appointments
  • Appointment 1 (Fall): At your Fall advising appointment, be prepared to review your semester plan for completing your bachelor’s degree, confirm your next semester’s courses, and discuss ways to get involved at UF that align with your educational and personal goals and interests.
  • Appointment 2 (Spring): At your Spring advising appointment, be prepared to review your semester plan for completing your bachelor’s degree, including confirming your next semester’s courses and making adjustments to your semester plan as needed. Be prepared to reflect on your first Fall semester at UF and discuss your final year and your post-graduation goals and plans.

Early in your first semester, schedule a wellness check-in with a PHHP UPTurn advisor.

UPTurn provides up to four no-cost, personalized skills-focused sessions on stress reduction, healthy habits, and academic/life balance. Individual psychotherapy (eight to twelve sessions are offered as well).
