Conditional admission

  1. If you are conditionally admitted to the program for the Fall semester and require a prerequisite course to be done over the Summer, then the course must be successfully completed by the end of the Summer A semester (July 1st), so we have enough time to finalize your admissions decision.
  2. If you are conditionally admitted to the program for the Summer B semester and require a prerequisite course to be done over the Spring, then the course must be successfully completed by the end of that semester (May 15th), so we have enough time to finalize your admissions decision.

BPH transfer students FAQs

What if I still have prerequisite courses I need to take, or have prerequisite courses in progress when I apply?

On the Academic Background section of the application, there is a “Current Courses in Progress” segment. In this section, please indicate any prerequisite courses you are currently enrolled in or identify the semester in which you expect to enroll in the prerequisite course. Please note our conditional admission policies above if you are applying for Fall admission and are taking a prerequisite over Summer A. Transfer applicants who have not completed all prerequisite courses at the time of their application must send updated transcripts to UF once those prerequisite courses are complete, and/or when their AA degree is earned. Competitive applicants have letter grades for at least three of the four prerequisite courses finalized at the time of application. All prerequisites must be completed prior to beginning the BPH program.

Can I use AP/IB/AICE credit to satisfy the BPH prerequisite courses?

Yes, the BPH program will accept AP/IB/AICE credit for any prerequisite course except the Advanced Writing prerequisite (ENC2210 or the equivalent). It is important to understand however that AP/IB/AICE credit may not satisfy prerequisite requirements for graduate school, so you may consider enrolling in a course for which you have earned AP/IB/AICE credit if the graduate programs you apply to require you to have letter grades for their prerequisite courses. Please note that test credit is not calculated in the prerequisite GPA.

Is ENC1101 and/or ENC1102 equivalent to the Advanced Writing requirement of ENC2210?

No. ENC2210 Technical Writing is its own course. If you are coming from a state college or university in Florida, then exact course equivalents are on the table above.

Do I need to send transcripts directly to the College of Public Health and Health Professions?

While you will need to send your official transcripts for your UF application, we ask that you provide your unofficial transcripts with your BPH application. The timeline for the University to process an applicant’s transcripts varies. By including your unofficial transcripts in your BPH application, we can complete a preliminary review of your application in a timely manner.

What factors are considered in an admissions decision?

A variety of factors are used in making admissions decisions, such as specific course performance, academic performance over time, career goals, content and quality of personal essay, a student’s tracking for their future graduate or professional program, and relevant experiences.

What should I know before applying if I want to be a doctor, physician assistant/associate, dentist, or anesthesiology assistant?

We heavily consider how far a student is appropriately tracking for their intended health profession. This is to ensure transfer student success with balanced academics. Students having appropriate courses for their intended health profession prior to admission avoids them from having to finish their prerequisites at another institution after graduation through non-degree enrollment or a postbaccalaureate program; completing pre-health prerequisite courses after graduation may have financial implications. Transfer students are expected to meet timely graduation within four full time Fall/Spring semesters (e.g., if transfer students are admitted in Fall 2026, then they must graduate Spring 2028). If you are in one of these preprofessional pathways, please review the FAQs here under transfer students of strongly recommended science courses before matriculation.

When is the application deadline?

The deadline for Summer B and Fall is February 15.

What if I miss the application deadline?

The final deadlines are firm, and we are unable to accept late applications after February 15 for Summer B and Fall.

Do you admit students for the Spring semester?

At this time, the Public Health major does not admit students for the Spring semester. Our program only admits students for the Summer B or Fall terms.

Am I able to study abroad?

If you are tracking appropriately for your future graduate or professional school endeavors, then you can only study abroad during the Summer semester between your first and second year at UF. Study abroad plans are made through UF’s International Center and require consultation with your academic advisor.

How long after the application deadline will I know whether I am accepted into the program?

All decisions will be released by April 1.

I had a bad first semester at my current institution. Do I have any chance of being admitted?

You must meet the minimum GPA requirements to be considered, but there are still choices you can make to strengthen your application. If you did poorly in a course that you normally are strong in, then take a more advanced course to show you can do the work. The admissions committee considers your pattern of performance over time.

I have had recent medical or interpersonal issues that have affected my academic performance. Will my recent poor performance ruin my chances of being considered?

If there is something that you think would be helpful for the admissions committee to know, then include an explanation with your application. The admissions committee will consider the information in the context of the consistency of your performance in different semesters. If you are having medical or interpersonal issues affecting your academic performance, the most important thing that you can do is get the right help. We encourage you to take responsibility to address any issues that are causing academic concerns. In addition, sometimes students have learning disabilities that are not diagnosed until college. If you suspect this might be part of any academic struggles, consult your institution’s Disability Resource Center.

What if I am not admitted?

We strongly encourage you to have a back-up plan; we generally recommend that transfer students apply to other schools that offer their majors of interest. Because of our early application deadline and decision release, Summer B denied students can apply to another major at UF for the Fall that follows a May 1st deadline if they meet admissions requirements for it. If you are still interested in attending UF, then you can review UF’s Transfer Application Dates to see the application deadlines for different UF programs.

If I am not admitted to UF under PHHP, can I transfer under another major and then switch over?

Due to seat availability, transfer students must apply directly to a PHHP major. We do not permit transfer students who apply outside of the college to change into a PHHP major.
