- Graduate Study and Internship
- Complete at least three full‑time academic years of graduate study.
- Finish an APA‑accredited internship before being awarded the Ph.D.
- Training Location
- At least two of those three academic years must be spent in the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology.
- Residency Requirement
- At least one of those years must be a full‑time, on‑campus year in Gainesville.
How to gain Florida in‑state residency
Many applicants forget to submit the necessary residency documents, which can result in loss of residency status. Being born in Florida or having attended Florida schools does not automatically give you in‑state residency.
Steps for new graduate assistants:
- Early Action
- Take the required residency steps no later than the start of your first fall semester and before the drop/add deadline of that semester.
- Eligibility
- U.S. citizens, permanent‑resident aliens, or legal aliens with indefinite stay granted by the Immigration and Naturalization Service are expected to complete the residency process for tuition purposes.
Following these steps ensures that you are considered an in‑state resident for tuition and meet all APA accreditation criteria.
