The courses cover similar materials, but students learn to use different software for statistical applications. PHC 6050 uses SPSS software and PHC 6052 uses SAS software. SAS is a more robust program, and may be more difficult to learn. The preferred method for accessing SAS for distance students is through UF Apps. Students should make sure they are comfortable with the process before classes begin. Certificate applicants may choose the Biostatistics class that will most benefit them. Certificate applicants that wish to later apply to the MPH program should choose their Biostatistics course based on their anticipated MPH concentration. Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, and Social and Behavioral Sciences concentrations require PHC 6052 as part of their curriculum.
