Current role: Actuary; Fellow, Society of Actuaries
Why did you decide to join your program?
I wanted formal statistical training in AI. This online program with a focus on health was the perfect fit.
What have been some of your favorite moments in your program?
For my capstone project, I was to review and add analysis to a publication. I found a biostatistician and professor in Australia who predicted hospital length of stay with a new statistical method. He developed a new type of AI modeling technique and was kind enough to help me with the computer code. There is a great online community of students and professors throughout the whole program.
What do you plan to do with your degree?
I work for an AI company that helps traditional insurance companies predict future health insurance events. As an actuary and data scientist, my role is to help create and implement those AI models. I can now add AI modeling to traditional actuarial methods to help make predictions for healthcare.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
My 11-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son keep my wife and me plenty busy with lots of school and sport activities. I enjoy playing soccer and listening to books on Audible, too.
What would you like to share with others who may be considering the same program?
Go for it! The online program allowed me to go at my own pace to fit within my work and personal schedule.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
Thank you for teaching me the human health impact behind the numbers. There are patients behind the statistics that make this work meaningful.
