Meet: Jenna Cavanaugh
Program: Bachelor of Public Health/Master of Public Health combined program
Hometown: Navarre, FL
Why did you decide to join your program?
After switching majors three times at UF, I finally sat down and met with a PHHP advisor. She explained all that PHHP has to offer and even sat down to help me plan out my schedule for the coming years. I felt seen, heard and understood, and I knew that PHHP would be a place where I could grow professionally and academically. Since then, I have had excellent research opportunities and exposure to programs that align with my future career ambitions.
What have been some of your favorite moments in your program?
I have been introduced to some of the most amazing professors through my program, and because of the structure of PHHP, I have even taken multiple classes with them. Dr. Daniel Acosta taught my first class as a PHHP student, and now I’m taking my first graduate class with him. He truly cares about all his students, and it’s this support that I love within PHHP.

What do you plan to do with your degree?
I aspire to be a biostatistician, either in the public sector, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or the private sector, specifically at Merck.
What would you like to share with others who may be considering the same program?
Talk to a PHHP advisor! I switched my major three times at UF before settling on public health, and my advisor helped me through the process before I finally decided to join. The faculty, professors and staff at PHHP are so friendly that I wouldn’t change my decision for the world.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to read and go for runs.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
As a Dean’s Ambassador for PHHP, I have the opportunity to represent the college that has given me so much. My opportunities are nothing short of extraordinary, from tabling events to community service and college tours. I have the opportunity to interact with both current and prospective students, demonstrating the value I place on PHHP.
