Susan Nittrouer, Ph.D., a professor in the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions’ department of speech, language, and hearing sciences, was invited to serve as a keynote speaker at the Hearing4all Symposium held November 7-8 in Hanover, Germany. The symposium featured talks by internationally renowned experts in hearing research.
Nittrouer presented “Risk and Resilience in Auditory Development and the Effects on Language Acquisition.” Her talk explored questions regarding language acquisition in children when foundational auditory skills are affected by delayed development of central auditory pathways. She presented data from studies of children with congenital hearing loss who received cochlear implants and from children who experienced temporary hearing loss caused by frequent ear infections.
