Meet: Caroline Zetterower
Program: Bachelor of Health Science, Communication Sciences and Disorders
Expected Graduation: Spring 2026
Why did you decide to join the BHS CSD program?
I decided to join the CSD program at the University of Florida to learn more about communication sciences and disorders and to solidify my understanding of what speech-language pathologists do and how they engage in their field. I aim to gain valuable knowledge about the inner workings of the speech and hearing mechanism and to fully understand how speech is formed and spoken, to help me be sufficiently prepared for graduate school and beyond.
What have been some of your favorite moments in the BHS CSD program?
Some of my favorite moments in the CSD program have been during group projects and engagement with my peers. Working through questions and projects with others who are pursuing the same goals has inspired and helped me greatly. I have also thoroughly enjoyed learning about the anatomy and physiology of the speech mechanism as well as language development.
What do you plan to do with your degree?
I plan to attend graduate school and become a pediatric speech-language pathologist, and to work either in a clinical setting or with my local school district. I currently work in a preschool classroom and have found that working with kids is what I love to do. I am passionate about helping children achieve their goals and meet milestones, and I believe a career as an SLP will further fuel that passion.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love going to the beach, spending time with friends and family, watching football, and going to church.
What would you like to share with others who may be considering the BHS CSD program?
I would encourage others to pursue this program because I have had an incredible experience so far learning about public health at the University of Florida. All of my professors have been amazing and extremely helpful, and I have made some great connections with peers who are also in the program. Pursuing this program has been the best decision I have made, and I would recommend the CSD program to anyone who has an interest in the field.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I am a first-generation student and am extremely excited to graduate and attain my goal of becoming an SLP. I firmly believe that no matter where you are in life, learning never stops. I am so thankful that I have had the opportunity to learn and grow my world knowledge at the University of Florida.
