Department of epidemiology members present at World Psychiatric Association Congress in Thailand

A faculty, student and staff team represented the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions department of epidemiology at the 20th World Psychiatric Association Epidemiology and Public Health Section Congress held October 9-11 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Highlights included:

  • Linda B. Cottler, Ph.D., M.P.H., dean’s professor of epidemiology and director of the NIDA Substance Abuse Training Center in Public Health program, delivered the 21st Professor Emeritus Charas Suwanwela, M.D. Lecture on “Innovation of Community Engagement in Public Health” at the 24th International Conference of Public Health Sciences, co-hosted by Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, Babes-Bolayi University in Romania and Huasanuddin University in Indonesia.
  • Vijaya Seegulam, a Ph.D. student in epidemiology and NIDA T32 predoctoral trainee, was a featured speaker in the final oral symposium, “Training the Next Generation of Psychiatric Epidemiologists,” moderated by Cottler. Seegulam was also inducted into the World Psychiatric Association.
  • Zoe Martusewicz, M.P.H., operations manager of the Cottler Lab; Carolina Rosales, PANDEMIC national site coordinator; and Seegulam presented research posters at the World Psychiatric Association meeting.
  • The UF team met with Chitlada Areesantichai, Ph.D., dean of the Chulalongkorn University College of Public Health Sciences, and Usaneya Perng, Ph.D., an assistant professor, to discuss future collaborations with Chula HealthStreet.
