Meet: Brittney Harris

Program: Bachelor of Health Science, Communication Sciences & Disorders

Expected Graduation: Spring 2025

Why did you decide to join the BHS CSD program?

I joined the communication sciences and disorders (CSD) program offered through UF Online for a few reasons. Most importantly, I heard great things about the program from former students. Additionally, there were no CSD programs at nearby colleges, so I needed an online option. I also required a program in Florida so my Bright Futures scholarship would cover tuition.

What have been some of your favorite moments in the BHS CSD program?

I’ve loved every moment of my time in the CSD program at UF. Even though I’m an online student, I’ve still found a sense of community through the program and extracurriculars like the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA). I’ve experienced significant personal and professional growth, which is invaluable.

What do you plan to do with your degree?

After graduation, I plan to pursue a master’s in communication sciences and disorders. After that, I’ll complete my clinical fellowship (CF), earn my Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and get licensed as a speech-language pathologist (SLP). I want to work in pediatrics in a school or private practice setting.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my free time, I enjoy baking, reading, watching TV and movies, and spending time with my family, friends, and pets.

What would you like to share with others who may be considering the BHS CSD program?

If you’re considering UF Online for the CSD program, I highly encourage you to do so. You won’t regret it. I may be biased, but I think our program is the best there is.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

My advice for new students is to get involved. Join organizations and clubs, and form friendships with your peers. Also, remember that challenging times in your courses are temporary, so keep your eyes on the end goal.
