Tinu Olarewaju, a Ph.D. student in rehabilitation science at the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions, received the best presenter award at the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy annual conference held September 19-21 in Columbus, Ohio.

Olarewaju was recognized for her poster, “Walking Variability and Kinematics of the Thorax and Pelvis During Walking in Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury.” The main takeaway: Variability is a feature of movement control where excess or too little is detrimental. Comprehending movement variability after spinal cord injury aids understanding motor control and intervention effects to restore walking after incomplete spinal cord injury.

Olarewaju is mentored by Emily Fox, Ph.D., D.P.T., an associate professor in the department of physical therapy; director of the Brooks-PHHP Research Collaboration; and clinical associate director of the UF Breathing Research and Therapeutics, or BREATHE, Center.
