As the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions prepares to welcome new students this fall, current students are sharing their words of wisdom and encouragement for new Gators.

bachelor of public health

Abel Abraham

"I wasn't initially a PHHP student, but joining was one of the best decisions I've ever made. The supportive, tight-knit network of staff and students has defined my college experience—they've empowered me to integrate my passions for medicine, public health, and arts into one. "

"Be intentional with your time. Join communities that leave you inspired and renewed!"

BACHELOR OF HEALTH SCIENCE in communication sciences and disorders

Zurii Tucker

"I am in my last year of the CSD program here at UF and it has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I think that my most exciting experience so far has been learning ASL because it was something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve met so many amazing people and learned so many interesting new things, I would never trade these experiences for anything else!"

"My advice for any underclassmen pursuing a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders would be to try and get involved early. I never knew about NSSHLA or any other program activities till I was already accepted into the program. Also, definitely don’t be afraid to reach out to the CSD professors or other students, if you need to. My best work has always been done in study sessions with my classmates."

BACHELOR OF HEALTH SCIENCE in communication sciences and disorders

Reagan Cutich

"My experience as an undergrad in the SLP program so far has been incredibly enlightening, providing me with the essential knowledge to help patients in the future. The most exciting aspect has been meeting faculty who encourage my research endeavors and are eager to support my success, along with professors who are genuinely committed to our growth."

"My advice to the freshman class is to stay hydrated—walking or biking around campus is no joke! Also, try something new; you never know what might catch your interest. For me, it was synchronized swim."

bachelor of public health

Ashton Bowling

"As a rising senior in the Bachelor of Public Health program with a career focus in healthcare administration, I can say I have found great joy in applying the knowledge I’ve acquired from the program in real-world settings through my internship with the GatorCare Wellness Team at UF Health. This practical experience has been incredibly rewarding and has solidified my passion for the field."

"I advise you to explore all the opportunities that UF and Gainesville have to offer. Four years may seem like a lot of time, but it will go by quickly."

BACHELOR OF HEALTH SCIENCE in communication sciences and disorders

Taylor Krauel

"As a rising senior in the Communication Sciences and Disorders online program for Speech Pathology, I have been aided by the incredible faculty that we have at the University of Florida to guide me on my educational path. Our university is filled with new opportunities and experiences that make me delighted to show off my skills in the CSD field."

"As a UF Online student, you can feel as though you are alone without face-to-face interactions. However, there is a powerful and supportive community behind UF Online that is there for you."

Combined bachelor/master of public health

Jake Feigenbaum

"My favorite part about the BPH curriculum is its ‘jack-of-all-trades’ feel as we take diverse courses relating to all five of the concentrations of public health. I’m excited to start my MPH with a concentration in epidemiology so I can start feeling like a master of one!”

“It’s not just about what degree you earn, but how you spend your time earning your degree! If you are able to work, research, intern, join a club, go for it!”

BACHELOR OF HEALTH SCIENCE in communication sciences and disorders

Brittney Harris

"I have loved every second of my time in the CSD program at UF. Even though I’m an online student, I’ve still found a community through the program and extracurriculars like NSSLHA. I’ve experienced so much personal and professional growth since starting this program, and I’m excited for my senior year to begin! Go Gators!”

"My advice for new students is to get involved. Join organizations/clubs and form friendships with your peers! Also, remember that the challenging times in your courses are temporary and remind yourself of the end goal."
