Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Shakeel Ahmed just published “Beyond breathing: Systematic review of global chronic obstructive pulmonary disease guidelines for pain management” in the journal Respiratory Medicine. The study reviewed clinical practice guidelines integrating respiratory and pain systems, finding that pain recommendations are not aligned with current evidence and that most COPD clinical practice guidelines do not address treating pain. Dr. Ahmed recommends that clinical practice referrals should maximize pain management and quality of life.
