Linda B. Cottler, Ph.D., M.P.H., FACE, a dean’s professor of epidemiology at the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions and the UF College of Medicine, has been selected to give the endowed lecture at the American College of Epidemiology annual meeting held in Columbus, Ohio, September 8-11.

This award is bestowed upon individuals who are developing or transforming aspects of epidemiology, such as introducing a new research domain, identifying innovative methods or making significant contributions to mentoring or education. Cottler will present “Epidemiology: The Intersection of Serendipity, Hard Work and Creativity” as the endowed lecturer.

“Dr. Cottler embodies the leadership and mentorship qualities that are fitting for this award,” wrote mentee and nominator Nae Won, Ph.D., a recent graduate of Ph.D. in epidemiology program. “She has made tremendous contributions to and transformed the field of epidemiology, particularly in translational community health science and psychiatric epidemiology related to substance use research. She is committed to investing in and training the next generation of scientists and leaders in epidemiology.”

Cottler was elected a 2023 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in recognition of her distinguished contributions to the field of psychiatric epidemiology, particularly assessment development for psychiatric disorders and substance use, innovative survey methods, peer-delivered interventions, and community engaged research with underrepresented populations.
