This course will explore non-traditional fieldwork and the opportunity it provides for community-based care focused on wellness, health promotion, and disease prevention. During a non-traditional role-emerging fieldwork placement, students explore the potential for, and establish and implement, an occupational therapy role. Learn about the role of occupational therapy in a transitionary primary care clinic through the lived experiences of members of the UF Health Care One Clinic in Gainesville, FL.
Target Audience
This course is well suited for occupational therapy practitioners as well as professionals with a background in rehabilitation who are interested in interprofessional learning collaborations, clinical education, and fieldwork.
Educational Level
Introductory: Information is geared to practitioners with little or no knowledge of the subject matter. Focus is on providing general introductory information.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:
- Discuss the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®) and its role in Fieldwork.
- Describe the term “nontraditional fieldwork” and why this matters to occupational therapy practitioners.
- Explain the background and purpose of the UF Health Care One Clinic.
- Summarize occupational therapy’s role in primary care.
- Demonstrate nontraditional Level I Fieldwork student experiences in a multidisciplinary transitionary primary care clinic.
Completion Requirements
1 Contact Hour for State of Florida Occupational Therapy practitioners will be awarded upon a successful completion of a multiple choice post-test. Participants will be able to print a certificate of completion after completing a short course evaluation in addition to the post-test.

Instructional Methods
One (1) hour course during which the learner will view a streaming video presentation, reference PowerPoint® slides, and take a multiple choice post-test.
