Two of our One Health doctoral students, Yi Su and Sara Townsend, have been selected to attend prestigious programs this summer.
Yi Su will participate in the Summer Institute for Infectious Disease Modeling at the University of Washington, Seattle. The Institute consists of a series of two-and-a-half day workshops designed to introduce infectious disease researchers to modern methods of statistical analysis and mathematical modeling, and to introduce statisticians and mathematical modelers to the statistical and dynamic problems posed by modern infectious disease data.
Yi will take three modules of workshops from July 11-27. She looks forward to improving her quantitative skills in analyzing infectious disease dynamics and applying them to her future research projects. This is also a great opportunity to network with other attendants.
Sara Townsend will be traveling to Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas from June 13 to the 23rd to participate in the Center of Excellence for Emerging and Zoonotic Animal Diseases (CEEZAD) Biosafety Level (BSL)-3 Training/Transboundary Animal Disease Summer Program. During her first week, she will take part in intensive hands-on and classroom training at the Biosecurity Research Institute.  Her second week will be comprised of site visits to area industry partners, seminars, and lectures from national and international subject matter experts in containment research and transboundary animal diseases.
Sara looks forward to learning new lab skills that will compliment those she is learning as part of her dissertation research. She is also excited to meet and hear from experts in the fields of containment research and transboundary animal diseases, and learn more about possible careers in those fields.
