Department of Environmental and Global Health doctoral student Mary Merrill, along with Department of Statistics doctoral student Hunter Merrill presented a 5-day workshop on R statistical programming for public health data at Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China on August 28-29 and September 1-3. There were roughly 80 attendees from multiple universities and institutions including Guangzhou CDC, Zhongshan CDC, and SYSU. The workshop was arranged by Professor JiaHai Lu, PhD, Professor and Director, Center of Inspection and Quarantine, School of Public Health, Sun Yat-Sen University. While in China, Mary and Hunter were also invited by Director Tao Wang of Zhongshan CDC to present a lecture to 40 Zhongshan CDC professionals on the uses of R for public health data.
