UF National Public Health Week events

April 2-6, 2012

It’s that time of year – National Public Health Week! The UF Public Health Student Association has planned a fun-filled week to educate students and the public about the contributions of public health to our communities. This year’s theme is “A Healthier America Begins Today: Join the Movement.”

Monday: Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco

  • Informational videos on the effects of drugs
  • Tobacco Florida’s work and addiction counseling/services

Tuesday: Communicable Diseases
12 p.m. – 3 p.m. in HPNP Complex lobby

  • Hand Washing Exercises
  • Disease Jeopardy
  • How to Stop the Spread of Germs

6:30 p.m.  “Contagion” will be shown in room HPNP 1404

Wednesday: Mental Health

  • De-Stress Station with warm beverages and snacks available
  • Social Support Station: Send a friend a health e-card from the CDC
  • “Mental Health Wish List Banner” where students can add their mental health goals for the semester
  • College Student Mental Health Fact Giveaways and Activities
  • Students can complete a short “College Student Stress Test”

Thursday: Reproductive and Sexual Health

  • “Let’s talk about sex game”
  • LGBT sexual health issues
  • Get Your Self Tested Campaign

Friday: Healthy Eating and Physical Activity

Public Health Fair at Woodland Park Boys and Girls Club
8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m

Free event to help children ages 5-13+ learn about public health and the role it plays in their daily lives. Morning activities by age group and a public health fair in the afternoon open to the public. To register, please call 352-377-8003.
