Colleen Le Prell

Current research programs in her laboratory at the University of Florida include her long-term efforts to precisely characterize the influence of the lateral olivocochlear neurons on auditory nerve function, and a collaborative translational research program directed at prevention of hearing loss induced by exposure to loud sound. The latter program includes an effort to identify and prevent the progression of biochemical processes that lead to cell death in the inner ear using basic science techniques, and a program of international human clinical trials. Theese studies include significant collaboration with multiple other US and international colleagues working together to translate potential therapies from animal models to human trials. New studies in Dr. Le Prell’s laboratory broadly extend the use of novel nutrient therapies to other sources of acquired hearing loss, specifically including the prevention of drug-induced hearing loss and age-related hearing loss.
