Alice Holmes

Dr. Holmes has two primary areas of research: Hearing loss prevalence and prevention in adolescents, and audiologic rehabilitation including the use of technology. Dr. Holmes is involved a series of studies on the prevalence and effects of hearing loss and tinnitus in adolescents and young adults. As a former educational audiologist Dr. Holmes has been interested in attitudes towards noise in adolescents and young adults, noise environments in both school and leisure activities for teenagers, and the effects hearing loss, tinnitus and noise have on their quality of life. Her other area of research, audiologic rehabilitation in adults focuses on the rehabilitative techniques including the use of amplification and cochlear implants for persons with hearing loss to enhance their quality of life. She is researching new ways to optimize the programming of hearing aids, cochlear implants and other digital auditory devices for persons with hearing loss using speech signals. In addition she is investigating the use of optimizing rehabilitation training programs using similar techniques.Full CV
