  • Testing and papers across core theory courses
  • Performance on core public health theory question on Qualifying Exam
  • Understanding will be reflected in dissertation proposal and in final dissertation defense

Level of achievement:

  • 100% of students will achieve a GPA of 3.7 or better across statistics, research methods, and scientific writing courses
  • 100% of students pass the Public Health Methodology and Analysis Question on Qualifying Exam
  • 100% of students will reflect understanding in the dissertation proposal and in the final dissertation defense

Develop competencies for conducting and analyzing Public Health Research How measured:

Develop competency for teaching at the undergraduate level, and in entry level professional graduate programs. How measured:

  • Grades in teaching course
  • Performance in supervised teaching experience
  • Teaching evaluations and peer reviews

  • 100% of students receive an -A or better in teaching course
  • 100% of students are evaluated favorable by at least 80% of students and peers and by the faculty supervisor for mentored teaching experience

Demonstrate competency in a focused area of Public Health that can be applied in a research study. How measured:

  • Testing in courses related to student’s specific research area
  • Performance on research concentration area question on Qualifying Exam

  • 100% of students will receive a GPA of 3.7 or better across all concentration area courses
  • 100% of students will pass their specific interest Qualifying Exam question

Who will measure:

  • Faculty in research area courses
  • Major professor
  • Students’ Dissertation Committee members
Demonstrate ethical research conduct. How measured:

  • Testing in Public Health Ethics course.
  • Testing / maintenance of  IRB and HIPAA training
  • Observation of performance in research activities

Level of achievement:

  • 100% passing in the ethics course
  • 100% completion/ passing on the IRB and HIPAA training
  • 0 incidents of IRB or HIPAA violations
