Morrill Act Celebration: Rural Health
The panel discussion on rural health in Florida will be moderated by Dean Michael G. Perri and features two guest experts on Florida rural health. Gail Bellamy, Ph.D., a professor and director of the Center for Rural Health Research and Policy at the Florida State University College of Medicine will speak on “Rural Health and Land Grant Colleges: The Continuing Legacy of the Morrill and Smith-Lever Acts.” Pamela Blackmon, the health officer/administrator of the Suwannee and Lafayette County Health Departments will present “The 3 ‘Rs’ of Rural Public Health.” The seminar is free and open to the public.
The Morrill Act of 1862 established the land-grant university system and provided thousands of Americans access to knowledge they most likely never would have experienced. For more information on UF and the land grant story, visit landgrant.ufl.edu.
